Took me about 2 hours and 15 minutes to go upriver, a little under 2 to get back down river, but the stiff headwind made it difficult the last mile or so.

I greatly enjoyed the two tunnels, one about a mile up river, the other about a mile downriver from the portage area dam. The upriver tunnel is a bit tighter, but both were amazing to go through. Depending on the wind and current, you can drift right through them.

Saw several turkeys in the rolling fields to the left upriver and a cormorant took off out of the water in front of me, which was cool to see. Saw a big hawk circling the river and a white shelled turtle sunning itself on a log.

Easy access from the rink, the water was quite high, but I wasn't brave enough to try and exit the kayak at the upriver location. 5 miles up, 5 miles back...had a great day! Thanks again for the info! To learn more about this location and others, buy her book, it's an excellent read! (I always put my cart behind my seat in my kayak so it is with me. I have heard of people's equipment being stolen too, so sad, but it happens!) Thanks again! Happy paddling! I'd say that the distance from the parking lot to the water is probably about 100 feet and definitely smooth enough for wheels to be a big help-- and close enough that you could stash the wheels in your car if you didn't want to leave them waterside. (I always see people hiding their wheels at places like Great Pond. It would take a really mean spirited person to steal a set of kayak wheels, but once a friend had her crutches stolen while skiing I figure there's really nothing some people won't take.)Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12914804828283542372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616078566493718593.post-979770823455444882016-07-14T20:33:12.901-04:002016-07-14T20:33:12.901-04:00Thank you for the comment!
