My Book!!

One opportunity that the blog has brought me is the co-authoring of a guidebook, Paddling Southern Maine! It is something in which I take a lot of pride! My writing partner, Sandy Moore, and I have created a book with 54 amazing trips that are within about an hour of Portland! Our motto as we wrote the book was wanting to 'get people to spend the day on the water and not in their cars!'

If you want more information on our book please click on the image of the book below.

Sandy and I are available to attend/present various functions/events. Please email me at mainekayakgirl@gmail.com for more information!

Not Yet Paddling Season

It is still a ways away from paddling season.... but today I explored Hawkes Preserve, along the Presumpscot River on the Gorham/Windham line.
I paddled here in August of 2017 for the first time.  Read about it here.

Today's adventure kept me on dry land, exploring the trails here.
It was a beautiful day along the water!
I am blogging about my non kayaking adventures.  If you are interested in expanding your outside adventures, you may want to check out my other blog... here.

In the meantime... here are some pics from today!

Hope you are enjoying winter!!!

Women Who Paddle - I want your help!!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a nice holiday season and are already thinking/planning new places to explore in 2019!

I wanted to share some news...
I have been named as an ambassador for the organization "Women Who Paddle!"
This group was started by a woman who wants women to empower other women to get on the water!  She put word out that she wanted to have some ambassadors from around the world to help more women get on the water and into paddling sports.  (How cool is that?!)

So... 30 of us from across the world have been named as ambassadors!   I am so excited about this.... the possibilities are endless!!!

Some of the things I want to do as an ambassador is to host some paddling events, create a forum for women to pick each other's brains about paddling, and to get people who are new to paddling out on the water with people with more experience!

I would love to hear from you, especially women, about the following:
- What are some of your best or most important lessons from paddling?
- What advice would you give to new paddlers?
- What is your favorite piece of paddling equipment & why?
-Best place you have ever paddled?
- Best place to take a beginner paddler?

If you are a more experienced paddler, what do you think a paddling ambassador could offer to paddlers with more experience?

And lastly... if you are someone who has wanted to try kayaking and have not done it yet... reach out to me and let me know... (I will post more on this as spring approaches!)  I would like to choose one or two women to introduce to kayaking who would be willing to share their adventure on this  blog and as part of a blog on Women Who Paddle!

On a separate note...
This weekend I had a friend in town... we don't get to see each other very often.  He is, in his words, 'A New Yorker'... always has been always will be... but.. in the last couple of years I have gotten him out in my kayaks a few times and he really enjoys it.  We talked about kayaking and the trips we took... fun to remember those experiences!  He also asked about trips we can do this summer!  It was fun to think about being on the water... I need to plan some trips for him that have a little bit of a current, but nothing too strong... he REALLY wants to do the Boothbay trip... but... he is still too green for that!!

Hope you are also thinking about Paddling!!
